Billie Gerald Waltz

Unfortunately, I didn't get to know my grandfather Billie Waltz very well. Billie and my grandmother Marjorie Joy Horn divorced before I was born. I remember meeting Billie a couple of times when I was teenager. He was near the end of his life and my aunt (his daughter) Susan was taking care of him. Susan Pauline Waltz was an LPN working in a nursing home. She manged to get Billie into her facility, but it didn't last very long. I'm not exactly sure why, but Billie ended up in the Soldier's and Sailor's home in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Billie was born July 27, 1927 to William Lee and Georgia Pauline (Davis) Waltz in Mooresville, Indiana. He was the oldest of 3 children born to William and Georgia. The other two being twins boys Richard and Robert.

Billie entered the service at the age of 17 in 1945. He served both in World War II and Korea for the Navy and the Marines.

Billie was married 4 times. First to my grandmother Marjorie Horn in 1948, then to Carolyn Hardy in 1966, then to Sally Ann Gilliam whom he married twice. The first time in 1972 and again in 1987.

Billie adopted my uncle Danny after he married my grandmother and went on to have 2 more children with my grandmother Marjorie:
  • Susan Pauline Waltz (Oct 14, 1948)
  • Dianna Kay Waltz (Jul 14, 1950) - my mother
Billie also fathered 2 children with Evelyn McLaughlin although they were never married:
  • William David Waltz (1952)
  • Georgia Carolyn Waltz(1954)
There are no known children from his marriages to Carolyn Hardy or Sally Gilliam.

Billie's usual occupation was truck driver.

Billie passed away on January 13, 1989 in the Soldier's and Sailor's home in West Lafayette Indiana. He was 61 years old.
